However, I would reject the claim that whichever branch of liberalism you are referring to does not base its society on natural rights. Society from a liberal/libertarian viewpoint is actually based on natural rights, although the liberal definition of "natural rights" might differ from the republican one. Frankly, I'm not too familiar with Constant's ideology, but if he is the "inventor of the brand of liberalism that Bastiat subscribes to," I am afraid that his definition of "property" is a rather broad concept that does not only consist of material goods.
