...Simon Schama's in the air.

PBS is airing a new eight part mini-series called Simon Schama's Power of Art. Artists covered include Van Gogh, Picasso, Caravaggio, Bernini, Rembrandt, !!!David!!!, Turner, and Rothko. You can read the propaganda on our man Dah-veed here on the pbs.org website. The David episode airs Monday, 16 July at 10.00pm EST. I saw the Van Gogh and Picasso ones, and I think the director and editor did a really good job. Very sleek for a PBS documentary.

Personally, I don't like Schama--though I really like his book Landscape and Memory. He's probably a nice guy in person, but he comes across as snooty and condenscending, and his phrasing on camera makes me hallucinate roaches crawling under my skin. I want to punch him whenever I hear his British "Dah-veeeeed". I know it's better than the American "David", but I still want to punch him.

Did you check the program excerpts going with the analysis of the Marat painting on the site? You could read parts from the program, or from an interview, or from his books. Most of it being a bunch of nonsense. But this one part may convince you even further: "For Marat and Robespierre there could never be enough guillotine heads to feel safe." ...*tries to cold down the internal boiling*

He's so full of crap, I know, but I'm trying to be optimistic. If I don't, I'll get much too pissed off to watch the show. According to the credits (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/powerofart/view.php?page=series), there's a Re-enactor Robespierre, a Re-enactor Marat Maahhhraaahh, and others with the Marseillaise thrown in (of course).

All my teachers in high school said Mah-raht, but that's the New Joisy lower class bourgoisie for ya.
