...Simon Schama's in the air.
PBS is airing a new eight part mini-series called Simon Schama's Power of Art. Artists covered include Van Gogh, Picasso, Caravaggio, Bernini, Rembrandt, !!!David!!!, Turner, and Rothko. You can read the propaganda on our man Dah-veed here on the pbs.org website. The David episode airs Monday, 16 July at 10.00pm EST. I saw the Van Gogh and Picasso ones, and I think the director and editor did a really good job. Very sleek for a PBS documentary.
Personally, I don't like Schama--though I really like his book Landscape and Memory. He's probably a nice guy in person, but he comes across as snooty and condenscending, and his phrasing on camera makes me hallucinate roaches crawling under my skin.
