I agree with you, as I once tried to explain to someone why I dislike the Expiatory Chapel in Paris as a monument to the ideals of the Ancien Régime. They thought I was weird for caring, it's just a building, whatever. So while I agree with you, the general public doesn't make much a distinction, it's all 200 years old politics for them. I've tried. :-(
