So I was googling some facts on Merlin de Thionville (i.e. his first names), when I came across this site and the pretty little picture in the middle of it:



...I cracked up.

I don't know why it's so amusing, if it's the Heroic Soldier Pose Epic Fail, or if it's the text saying (in French) "the statue of a proud soldier", and you can see how PROUD he REALLY wants to show he IS with his arms up there like that, but... yeah. To prove further my point:

Bigger details indeed! They sure didn't spare the loving detail of his bulge there. Striking that pose, I kind of expect him to start dancing. The longer I look at it, the more disappointed I am that he doesn't. The tease.

P.S. It's an awful Thermidorian who ended up at the knees of Louis XVIII to beg that his participation to the storming of the Tuileries was a youth mistake in order not to be exiled. Or at least French Wiki says so. Anyway. He deserves it.
