All hail the Buffy!

Salut!

I just got in Buffenoir's Portraits de Robespierre and thought I'd share the Maxime love. There's 70 something plates, all b&w, and I so far have scanned the first ten. Some of the pictures are pretty well known, but I figured I'd put them up anyway.

All planches are 600 pixels wide, 300 dpi. Clicky click thumbnails under the cut. Do whatever you like with them [except hotlink]. Gangsta Max icons, anyone?!?!

Buffy has such nice penmanship.

Planche 01. Maxime lookin' chubby in his early 20's. Boilly really improved over the years.

Plate 02

Planche 03. Exact same picture from another book here. According to JM Thompson, it's unlikely Gerard was the one who actually drew it. Eh, it makes no difference to me: this picture is one of my favorites.

Planche 04. A pair of breeches, woefully tight.

Planche 05. Once more in sepia tone.

Planche 06. Maxime as a teenager.

Planche 07. The fluffy lamb portrait.

Planche 08

Planche 09. Can't get any better than teh double side curls.

Oooh, these are great. I haven't seen a lot of them before. And, yes, the third one is awesome. <3

Thanks for posting! :D

New Robespierre pics!! Eee. Thank you!

...Is it just me or does he look mysteriously about twice his age in no. 5? And rather 'dorable in 10 :)

OMSB look at #1...apparently Napoleon's just following the latest trends. xD

Is it really from 1910? How'd you get it, then?

Not all of these are him…

1 is Augustin.
5 is a self-portrait by Ducreux.
2, 6. 9 and 10 are probably not him at all.
