Salut,
Here's the rest of the planches from Buffenoir's Portraits de Robespierre.
No pictures or thumbnails, just links under the cut. Most pics are 600 pixels wide, 300dpi. No hot linking, please. Tell me if there's any broken links or mislabeling.
Just out of curiosity, what's your favorite picture (or top 10) out of the whole book? Which one(s) is your least favorite?

Here's the results I got from that handwriting test mentioned by
trf_chan(in case anyone else is curious):
For a graphologist, the spacing on the page reflects the writer's attitude toward their own world and relationship to things in his or her own space. If the inputted data was correct Max has left lots of white space on the all four borders of the paper. Max fills up just the center area of the page. If this is true, then Max has a particular shyness toward people and a fear of moving too fast in any direction. In some cultures, respecting people, rules, and adhering to protocol are ways of life. The right side of the page represents the future and the left side represents the past. Max seems a bit stuck in the middle, afraid to take action. Max seems to have a fear of looking bad or of crossing boundries. It will be easy to work with Max on a team, because Max will usually follow the rules. However, this desire to respect the boundries can often be construed as a lack of confidence and people will walk over Max if he is not careful.
Something is incomplete in Max's life. He feels frustration relating to his physical needs and desires. Somewhere in his life there is some disappointment, non-fulfillment, and interruption. This is very likely to relate to Max's sexual needs.
Max is sarcastic. This is a defense mechanism designed to protect his ego when he feels hurt. He pokes people harder than he gets poked. These sarcastic remarks can be very funny. They can also be harsh, bitter, and caustic at the same time.
Max is capable of seeing far into the future. He plans two, three, even ten years in advance. Max has high goals and can literally see them being reached. He is very self-confident and has a high self-esteem. Max will reach whatever level of success he desires. Max has the self-concept that is possessed by less than two percent of the population. That two percent contains the most successful people in the world. When a person has a high self-esteem, he frees himself to achieve an unlimited world of success. Max has achieved this frame of mind. Congratulations. He has the self-confidence to take great risk, thus reaping the rewards. If he does fail, it doesn't break his confidence. He knows he can do it! In retrospect of our research, this trait is one of the most desirable to possess, because it releases the writer to achieve his full potential. We recommend everyone raise their self-esteem to this level.
In reference to Max's mental abilities, he has a very investigating and creating mind. He investigates projects rapidly because he is curious about many things. He gets involved in many projects that seem good at the beginning, but he soon must slow down and look at all the angles. He probably gets too many things going at once. When Max slows down, then he becomes more creative than before. Since it takes time to be creative, he must slow down to do it. He then decides what projects he has time to finish. Thus he finishes at a slower pace than when he started the project. He has the best of two kinds of minds. One is the quick investigating mind. The other is the creative mind. His mind thinks quick and rapidly in the investigative mode. He can learn quicker, investigate more, and think faster. Max can then switch into his low gear. When he is in the slower mode, he can be creative, remember longer and stack facts in a logical manner. He is more logical this way and can climb mental mountains with a much better grip.
Max is talkative. He enjoys talking and socializing. He may talk when there is absolutely nothing important to say. He enjoys speaking.
Max will demand respect and will expect others to treat him with honor and dignity. Max believes in his ideas and will expect other people to also respect them. He has a lot of pride.
Max is a very emotional person with a broad range of emotions from the highest highs to the lowest lows. He feels emotional situations very strongly. He'll flash to the very peaks of elation, sweeping everything before him. Then, for some reason unknown to himself, he will burn out emotionally. These mood swings can be very disturbing to him. Sometimes, he feels that he can no longer produce anything. But, after given some time alone to "recharge his emotional batteries", he will spring back into action. Because Max feels situations intensely, he relates easily to others' problems. If he is not careful, when he comes into contact with someone who is in a depressed frame of mind, he will also suffer the same emotions and change moods. Max reacts impulsively, without much thought before hand. He may plan everything in detail before he even begins, then do it completely different when the time comes to carry it through. Max has a strong need for affection. He thrives on touching and being touched. Max desires being told that he is loved, every day.
He enjoys being the center of attention. He loves attention, sometimes he even retells stories that got him attention earlier. Max has the possibility of being a actor or natural born salesperson, simply because he relates so well to other people. He likes expressing how he feels, what he is doing, and what he plans to do. He is a people person. He will work most efficiently in a people orientated job as opposed to a job working alone on an assembly line (that would drive him insane.)
Max tends to write a bit smaller than the average person. When a person's letters are small and tiny, this indicates an ability to focus and concentrate. This character trait is a huge asset in careers like math, science, race car driving, and flying planes. However, if Max writes tiny all of the time, he will also display characteristics of someone who is socially introverted. Max will often sit on the sideline and watch others get the attention at parties. He might be willing to open up and be warm, but only in small groups or a select group of people. When he is
busy working on a project, it is common for all other noises and distractions to just fade away and his ability to focus is incredible. When he says he didn't hear you... really, he didn't hear you.

Oh, I don't know about it being too lumberjack. Looks rather strapping to me. A...bit un-Maximeish, but still. :D
Re planche 45: O_O; Um...squeezing the blood out of a freshly picked aristo-heart, maybe? I dunno, it seems like something that Thermidorian!Maxime would do.
AAAAAAAAAAH, WHY DO DANTON-Y MAXIME PICTURES EXIST. They're strangely scarring. ;.; But at least Mostly Normal-y Maxime gets to chillax with Jesus to make up for it.
In planche 63a, I think he's the one of the left. Not sure, though.
You know, I think I remember some apparent "handwriting expert" saying he "shuddered at the cold, perfectly formed signature of Robespierre" or something. -_-; Search me if I remember where, though. Just for fun, I went to www.handwritingwizard.com and tried to do one for Maxime. The results (http://www.handwritingwizard.com/analysis.phtml?id=430874)...are a bit mixed. O.o; They seem quite true in some parts, but not in others. This could be due to (a) The fact that handwriting analysis is probably bunk and (b) The fact that I'm definitely not trained to 'interpret' handwriting. XD;
I swear, I spent more time doing that than I ever did doing my own. Damn your handwriting, Maxime!no subject

that guy's full of crap.
oh man, i followed the link and couldn't get the result, so i did the test. i c&p-ed it into notepad.
did you get that he was sexually frustrated?no subject
Date: 2007-03-29 09:07 pm (UTC)Yes. Yes I did. And I thought, "Damnit, Maxime, if only you'd stopped trying to deny your obvious lust for Saint-Just." Also, according to mine, he was a genius. But we already knew that. :Dno subject

Date: 2007-04-02 02:41 pm (UTC)And wow on the handwriting analysis. Some of it seems really accurate, i.e. Robespierre's ability to self- actualize and plan, and the sexual needs bit made me giggle. Well, Danton didn't continually insult Maxime's masculinity for nothing, did he? I also think it's adorable that Robespierre drew a little flower by his signature. *g*
