The way Élisabeth conducted herself truly is impressive, you're right. I imagine it must have been difficult for all of those imprisoned after Thermidor, but for her especially, given the fact that she had a six week-old baby to take care of, not to mention her apparent former innocence--and the fact that she was released before the rest of her family with nothing to live on. It really is amazing that she managed to survive all that.

If she--if all the rest of them as well--had not been brave, I think it would be unbearable to read anything on the subject of Thermidor. I shudder to think...
