More costume pattern stuff...
Jun. 29th, 2008 12:04 amHere's the instructions (in 2 parts, because the book is over a4 size) for the 1795 costumes I posted patterns for yesterday, and another pair of patterns for a 1785 couple, also English, but in clothes very similar in cut to ones worn in the early 90's.
I hope the writing's legible! If there's any missing I'll type it in shortly.

Date: 2008-07-01 12:08 pm (UTC)I am fond of all kind of costumes, from historical to ethnic ones - and I love costumes of revolutionary France, especially male ones :).
I'd like organize a Rev party sooner or later. Everyone who is invited should wear an appropriate costume. And - why not ? Inspired to someone chosen among our well-known characters.
So I have a question for you: I have two books dealing the history of European costumes from XIVth century 'till XXth, but I hardly found any information about men and women underwear in revolutionary France. Do you know something about it ? (-> if I organize this party everything must be perfect - underwear too :D)

Date: 2008-07-03 05:54 pm (UTC)I have also checked the link you gave me - it is an excellent site - and for ethnic costumes too :)
I am not very fond of XVIIIth century men costuming in ancien regime (very similar to those Robespierre was used to wear actually), they were too fancy for my tastes and more I don't like very much that kind of shoes, but I love - yes: this can be really called love - the typical jacobine-montagnard costume with a dark-coloured doublebreast coat and riding boots (like Saint-Just's for instance).
About the party-> I will have to wait 'til next fall for sure: now it's too warm here to wear wigs, corsets and redingotes.... such a clothing would be a torment ! But the idea of XVIIIth century's food is lovely: I had already thought about the music (it is difficult to find some appropriate, because the Terror didn't like balls and the minuet were regarded as something connected to aristocracy), I didn't think of food indeed. We should start a new topic to discuss it !
