For Vinot there is no mystery at all. After S-J returned from "exile" in Paris he was able to take advantage of family and personal alliances with other politically active people in his community. His own gifts of intelligence and charisma made him stand out. Only the fact that for a period of time he was too young to hold elective office held him back.
Vinot and Mazzucchelli need a third author to decide the issue for them!
