Great movie!
However, I liked the movie (both parts of it: "Robespierre" and "Danton") and I think is the best film ever made about French Revolution and our dear friends. At least, is not biased to Danton's side, and you knows how nasty he could be is he wanted to. ;D Other thing I liked a lot about this movie is that Saint-Just was not showed as the bad, cold guy who wants to kill everybody just for having some fun. Here, he is a romantic who doesn't likes to send people to guillotine but that he does it just to save the country. I find extremely good played the scenes at the comittées and at the Jacobin Club, where you may appreciate that there were political reasons behind the fall of the factions, and that Robespierre and the Comittées guys didn't send Hébert, Danton and Camille to National Razor just for they disliked them so much...
Jean Negroni makes a very good job portraying a very nice, but somewhat histerical and nervous Robespierre...Collot and Billaud were excellent ( always speaking and acting together, like twins); Lindet makes me laugh always writing and figuring out.The Duplays were showed exactly as I imagined them (without Victoire and Maurice, the younger boy, tough), and my Hanriot was just a cutie pie. If I know how to do it, I should take pictures of him n this movie just to make some avatars...Michel Trévières is so different from Jean-Pierre Laurent (the ugly, fat, old and drunkard Hanriot from "The French Revolution; Years of Rage") that I wanted to kiss his chubby, childish cheeks when I saw him for the first time portraying my beloved one...
Hilarious characters: this is not a movie for laugh, evidently. But there were some characters in it that makes me laugh a lot . One of them is Vadier. His little fights with Maxime are priceles! His faces and tone of voice are just...GREAT!. The other one is Fouché...here the man is CREEPY! Yes, they always needed a bad-boy in the the movies. I loved when he speaks with the corner of her mouth. It gives me chills, but makes me laugh all the same. The BIG BASTARD!!! Boissy-D'Anglas conversation with Fouché , his friends and Durand-de-Maillane is to roll on the floor laughing hysterically..The poor man is clueless when they comes to offer him to join Thermidor conspiracy! His "Ah...Vraiment" are just wonderful, as well as his final sentence after saying that there was not a tyrany in France: " Robespierre est le plus antiphatique des hommes que j'aie jamais rencontré". Beatiful...
A great movie in a whole. I watch it every two months or so. I know dialogues from memory. But..Who cares? The acting is marvelous and it's the only movie I know taking Robespierrist's side.
A LITTLE DISSAPOINTMEN: Lucile Desmoulins is very poorly shown; Theresia Cabarrus has the make-up and the hairdoss of a 1960's diva! Every time I see her behind the jail bars, it's like seeing Sofía Loren or Brigitte Bardot!; Couthon seems to be an old man; Fleuriot looks too old too...and Coffinhal is too nice! Just remember what he did to my poor, poor little angel! ;D (I'm kidding!)
