Please check out this site: http://ser.hypotheses.org/148 and this facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/etudes.robespierristes. And if you can, please make a donation!

The SER and the French National Archives have 15 days to raise close to a million euros to prevent previously unknown documents by LeBas and Robespierre from being auctioned off to the highest bidder and possibly taken out of the country! These documents belong to the French nation, and should end up in the national archives in Paris, where historians can use them for the invaluable insight they give into the revolution. Please help save Robespierre's legacy!

(if you don't read French, Google Chrome's translation module works great on both sites)

Thank you for posting this to the comm. It didn't occur to me to do so, but the more widely this is publicized the better. For my part, I've already donated to the public subscription and I encourage everyone who is able to do the same. We've raised over 100,000 euros so far, but that leaves us more than 800,000 short. The State should be able to cover the shortfall, but best not to take chances. Here's a video from the auction (again, for those of you who can read French): http://nord-pas-de-calais.france3.fr/info/les-manuscrits-de-robespierre-mis-aux-encheres-68839214.html?onglet=videos&id-video=LILL_1422164_180520110923_F3.

I'm in France, and have a French bank account, so I was simply able to write a check and mail it. In principle you should be able to send an American check the same way, but the trouble is of course that a goodly chunk of your donation would be lost through various transaction fees when they went to cash it. If they get back to you in a timely fashion and you are able to do the wire transfer, you should update this post explaining how to do it, since I'm sure you're not the only person wondering about this.
