[identity profile] momesdelacloche.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] revolution_fr
Hi guys,

A few weeks ago I was very ill with swine flu or something, and while I was in bed, aside from re-read Treasure Island, I also learned how to use Windows Movie Maker.
Here are the results:

i) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8ZTkV4a8cg
ii) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdWYxESylDY

I was inspired by the great men and women who shaped France's history in the closing decades of the 18th century, and by the great artists Britney Spears and Lionel Richie who continue to shape our world today.
Please watch !!! (but please don't be offended for anything you may see or hear when clicking on the above links)

[livejournal.com profile] nirejseki, I see your intention but I feel I must protest - while, sure, it's a good idea to get a sense of the other members of this community, the last thing I'd want to recommend is trying to 'imitate' them.. because, well, we're all different people, and that's what keeps things going. Perhaps there tends to be a formal tone but I don't think it's necessarily an innate part of this group; rather I think it's because that's the individual style of some people here, perhaps the more vocal members. And there's nothing wrong with that, naturally; but that doesn't make it the rule. And as far as subject matter goes, although there are a lot of people here with similar opinions, this is meant to be a general community for the French Revolution, and as long as no one here is personally attacked disagreement is bound to happen, and it ought to. Liberty of the press, right?

Also I don't think it's right to say silliness and sarcasm are out of place here - just look at our info page! And for the record, I've had no trouble grasping the meaning of what [livejournal.com profile] momesdelacloche says, sarcastic or not - I've been rather ruffled by a couple of comments too but I still wouldn't want to discourage her from participating, because I get the impression she's a very clever person with a serious interest in the Revolution and, well, that's what we're here for, isn't it?

[livejournal.com profile] nirejseki, honest I'm not just trying to scold you because I see only well-meaning in what you said, this has just been more of a general statement. Alas, I just want us all to be friends and fall into each others' fraternal embraces. D:

Don't get me wrong, I don't want her to imitate us (I misused the word - I meant more what you meant along the lines of "get the sense of the other members") or give up her opinions. I get the feeling that most people have misunderstood my intention. I was not attempting to shut her up or force her to follow the way we normally do things - I mean, I like a good debate as much as the next person, if not more! - but I was very much confused by a number of her comments. Perhaps it's just my sarcasm meter not working, but I honestly couldn't tell if her recommendations were sincerely meant or not, and I wasn't sure if anyone else did either. Clarity would improve my enjoyment of her posts and then we would be able to talk more and exchange ideas better.

My request was primarily to behave a bit more clearly - keep in mind, I did not post this particular response off the top of my head, but rather in response to her question of "how do I not be/sound like a troll". Most of what I pointed out was general internet tips, which I only barely tailored for this community (thus the references to "look at other people", etc; it's more because I admire how our community generally follows the rules of netiquette rather than an actual request for her to fall in line or some sort of thing like that)

Please don't assume that I want her to conform or any such thing - or that I would think you were "scolding" me when you simply didn't get my meaning. (Why are you adding a disclaimer? D : I don't flame people on this community and I'm not scary, why would you think I would jump up and bite your head off..? Er. No pun intended. Still, ;_; )

I would prefer it if she capitalized her sentences and made her meaning a bit clearer by separating her sentences more, simply because as it is I find it difficult to carry on a conversion when I'm constantly confused. That's the reason I didn't respond to her first few posts, and as I would like to engage her further in the future, I suggested improvements that would make her more accessible to me. I honestly thought she was either making a joke with the Marie Antoinette/Britney Spears video or trying to get reactions out of people for fun; which is why I asked her if she was trolling rather than just accusing her. I have no problem with silliness (I draw and post French Revolution chibi comics, who am I to complain?), though I do think her original style of posting was very strange especially compared to the more formal style (particularly of grammar) that she uses on her own journal, and furthermore that people took it in a negative light, and as a result wanted to advise her on behavior that would prevent negative reactions in the future.

*shrug* I'm not good at being particularly clear myself; that's probably part of the problem. A troll invaded one of my other communities recently, doing something moderately similar, and so I might be a bit sensitive.
