Hi guys,
A few weeks ago I was very ill with swine flu or something, and while I was in bed, aside from re-read Treasure Island, I also learned how to use Windows Movie Maker.
Here are the results:
i) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8ZTkV4a8cg
ii) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdWYxESylDY
I was inspired by the great men and women who shaped France's history in the closing decades of the 18th century, and by the great artists Britney Spears and Lionel Richie who continue to shape our world today.
Please watch !!! (but please don't be offended for anything you may see or hear when clicking on the above links)

Date: 2009-07-23 08:20 pm (UTC)Of course, I might be wrong, in which case I of course apologise, but it's a little weird that you keep doing this.
In regards to the videos - and I mean this as constructive crit, not a flame, so don't take it wrong - you might want a bit more practice before posting. The audio on the first one was terrible with that terrible screech at the beginning, the cuts between clips aren't very well managed, and you suddenly substitute in photos, which breaks the chronology and make it very weird to watch. The first few seconds are good, but the middle is iffy, and the cuts are strange. I'll cut you some slack for being an amateur - it's not half bad for a first try - but try to focus on using just clips, not photos, and make sure your audio is appropriately tuned. Try looking up some guides on the internet, there are some good LJ communities for it.

As for... the content.. there really isn't any sinister intention. The second one was just meant to be funny. The first I don't think it's really for or against anyone, although it really is not about the ancien regime as much as the revolution.

Date: 2009-07-23 10:42 pm (UTC)It's a pretty scholarly community, despite the squeeing, so try to be respectful of other people's opinions, don't bait people intentionally (having your own opinions is fantastic, but if you don't need to fight with someone, don't! It's that simple. ^^), and respect the fact that very often, people here know a LOT. I've done a lot of research on this period, but I don't consider myself an expert compared to a lot of the people here, and (as you may have noticed) this is still one of the most divisive periods in history. So just be nice. ^^ That's all that's necessary not to be a troll.
Oh, and sign in when you reply, don't post on anon. ^^

Date: 2009-07-23 10:55 pm (UTC)The reason that I don't say very much is that I have very many opinions myself. But I love to read people's entries who do have them and I do respect them. I just don't respect myself an awful lot.
Then ou must wonder why I said anything at all, but really it because I am very lonely.
Sob.

Date: 2009-07-24 02:16 am (UTC)If you have read the community for a year, then try to imitate other people's style of posting - it's a moderately formal community. Lots of squeeing, to be sure, but we're more likely to judge people based on presentation than other groups. Even the non-English speakers try very hard to respect the basic rules of the language. Your first post or two involved comments like RA NAO and random !!! comments, so people naturally had a negative reaction. Try to be clear and use your best English and people will respect you more, whatever your opinions are.

Date: 2009-07-28 03:05 am (UTC)My request was primarily to behave a bit more clearly - keep in mind, I did not post this particular response off the top of my head, but rather in response to her question of "how do I not be/sound like a troll". Most of what I pointed out was general internet tips, which I only barely tailored for this community (thus the references to "look at other people", etc; it's more because I admire how our community generally follows the rules of netiquette rather than an actual request for her to fall in line or some sort of thing like that)
Please don't assume that I want her to conform or any such thing - or that I would think you were "scolding" me when you simply didn't get my meaning. (Why are you adding a disclaimer? D : I don't flame people on this community and I'm not scary, why would you think I would jump up and bite your head off..? Er. No pun intended. Still, ;_; )
I would prefer it if she capitalized her sentences and made her meaning a bit clearer by separating her sentences more, simply because as it is I find it difficult to carry on a conversion when I'm constantly confused. That's the reason I didn't respond to her first few posts, and as I would like to engage her further in the future, I suggested improvements that would make her more accessible to me. I honestly thought she was either making a joke with the Marie Antoinette/Britney Spears video or trying to get reactions out of people for fun; which is why I asked her if she was trolling rather than just accusing her. I have no problem with silliness (I draw and post French Revolution chibi comics, who am I to complain?), though I do think her original style of posting was very strange especially compared to the more formal style (particularly of grammar) that she uses on her own journal, and furthermore that people took it in a negative light, and as a result wanted to advise her on behavior that would prevent negative reactions in the future.
*shrug* I'm not good at being particularly clear myself; that's probably part of the problem. A troll invaded one of my other communities recently, doing something moderately similar, and so I might be a bit sensitive.

Date: 2009-07-23 10:35 pm (UTC)I would recommend posting them to a vid-specific community for more tips. Once it's nice and pretty, you can post it here with explanations - though the first one is a little inappropriate for her and ought to be put in one of the numerous Marie Antionette communities, rather than a community devoted to the revolutionary side of the French Revolution.
