Bloodsucking vampire Jacobins?
Sep. 6th, 2009 12:53 amWe got em! In answer to the previous post (sorry, I don't seem able to stick a picture into a post on that discussion thread), here's a panel from the French comic 'Requiem Chevalier Vampire' Tome 1. Guess who's a vampire in vampire world! Yeah, you guessed right.

As far as I know, it's just this one panel, though I haven't read the rest of the comics/BDs yet

Date: 2009-09-06 01:55 am (UTC)hotfabulous. I love the outfit at the back and the whole imagery and theme of the comic. I hope the rest of this comic comes out soon.no subject

Date: 2009-09-06 03:03 pm (UTC)The worst is Neil Gaiman's Sandman 'Thermidor' episode. I reread it recently in a bookshop (the Sandman comics are all collected into volumes) and it's amazingly bad - Robespierre has corpses strung up like marionettes to dance for his amusement, etc. Saint-Just, in the comic, says 'liberty is a bitch that must be bedded on a mattress of corpses' - a line I thought was supposed to have been said by Mirabeau.

Date: 2009-09-06 03:20 pm (UTC)uhuhuh...that's creepy allegoric pornography. Poor Saint-Just, he is attributed the creepiest quotes ever. Though as far as I know, Mirabeau's one is supposed to be: "Une nation ne se regénère que sur des monceaux de cadavres." Which is rather different, though, with Mirabeau and the Thermidorians (it appears in the Thermidorian play maelicia has found, said by "a friend of St.Just"), one never knows.

Date: 2009-09-06 03:51 pm (UTC)About 4 mins into this clip - the comic panel may have been suggeste by this (Gary Oldman as Dracula), which in turn looks like it was suggested by desxriptions of Robespierre, possibly through the route of Vincent Price in Tomb of Ligea (where he has some fabulous black glasses!).

Date: 2009-09-06 04:09 pm (UTC)Anyway, being vampires so erotic and fashionable, I'd suggest a series of "Jacobin Vampire Club, drinking your blood since 1789". A non-aristo and very virtuous version, though.

Date: 2009-09-06 04:41 pm (UTC)It's a very tragic dilemma, because if they feed off aristos, it still sounds like royalist/thermidorian propaganda. Not to say that it wouldn't be very erotic -- for me, anyway.

Date: 2009-09-06 04:50 pm (UTC)It's a dilemma. I would not oblige them to feed on aristos either, imagine all the diseases they could catch from the debauched and degenerated blood. Syphilis is neither virtous nor erotic, is it, Mirabeau?

Date: 2009-09-06 05:01 pm (UTC)But Collot with sparkles -- now that's a funny thing to imagine.
Yes. Ew. :/ At least they didn't have AIDS, but syphilis = not pretty. D:
